CCCS takes over consumer product safety and legal metrology functions
29 July 2025
With the coming into force of the Competition (Amendment) Act 2025 on 1 July 2025, the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (“CCCS”) has taken over the consumer product safety and legal metrology functions from Enterprise Singapore. As the Consumer Product Safety Office and the Weights and Measures Office currently reports to CCCS, businesses and consumers may approach CCCS for matters relating to fair trading practices, consumer product safety requirements, and weights and measures compliance.
The consolidation of consumer protection, legal metrology, and competition functions equips CCCS with a more comprehensive toolkit to strengthen market integrity, encourage business innovation, and foster a more trusted trading environment in Singapore. With its expanded consumer protection mandate, CCCS is better positioned to ensure that businesses operating in Singapore sell products that meet requisite safety standards, and adopt accurate measurements in consumer transactions, which is important to encourage robust and fair competition.
