Elsie’s areas of practice encompass financial regulatory and compliance, FinTech, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
In the area of financial (including banking) regulatory and compliance work, she advises financial institutions and non-regulated firms on a broad range of matters in the financial services industry, including licensing issues, variation of products and services, the conduct of business, organisation and governance requirements, and corporate restructuring. She has particular experience in digital financial innovation, payment services, and consumer finance sectors.
Elsie has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the financial sector. She has advised numerous banks on ground-breaking mergers and acquisitions deals, several of which involves the use of a pioneering 3-tier structure that was developed by the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK).
Elsie is also active in the FinTech sphere, having advised online finance platforms, equity and debt crowdfunding platforms, cryptocurrency and blockchain companies, as well as financial conglomerates on legal and regulatory issues when setting up operations in Indonesia.
Elsie is recognised as a leading practitioner by several legal publications. She is cited as a Leading Individual for IT, Telecoms and FinTech, and was cited as a Next Generation Partner for Banking and Finance in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. She was also cited as a Notable Practitioner by Chambers FinTech. In 2022, Elsie was recognised as one of Indonesia’s top 50 up-and-coming lawyers by Asia Business Law Journal.
Work Highlights
- Advised on Shinhan Bank’s acquisition of PT Bank Metro Express and PT Centratama Nasional Bank, and their subsequent merger to form Shinhan Bank Indonesia.*
- Advised on Industrial Bank of Korea’s acquisition of approximately 90 per cent. interests in two publicly listed Indonesian banks, PT Bank Agris, Tbk and PT Bank Mitraniaga, Tbk, and their subsequent merger to form Bank IBK Indonesia.*
- Advised Mediacorp Pte. Ltd., a Singapore based media conglomerate on the sale of a majority interest in PT Kapan Lagi Dot Com Networks, an Indonesian online news portal to PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi, a publicly listed media company based in Indonesia.*
